Nordisk Kaktus Selskab (The Nordic Cactus Society) is an association for those who are interested in cacti and other succulent (juice-filled) plants. NKS has approx. 200 members mainly in Denmark, but also in Sweden and Norway. The Society unites different people, who, however, have an interest in cacti and other succulents in common. Some have large greenhouses filled to the brim with exotic plants, others cultivate their plants in a south-facing window sill. There is room for everyone in NKS and it is probably the window sill growers who are the most numerous.

NKS publishes the magazine ‘KAKTUS og andre Sukkulenter’ (‘Cacti and other succulents’) three times a year. The magazine includes articles about plants, how they are cultivated and where they live in the wild (travelogues). Some are of a general nature, others are more specific, but everyone is welcome to make contributions. The magazine also brings advertisements from Danish and foreign nurseries if members should be interested in ordering seeds, plants, books or other hobby-related material. There is also a buy-exchange-sell corner in the magazine for books, plants, seeds and whatever else may be of interest to members.

The association's website www.nordiskkaktusselskab.dk also contains various offers for members, including a forum where we keep in touch with each other.

Nordisk Kaktus Selskab also has a Facebook page with a wealth of exciting photos with comments.

Once a year, the annual meeting is held. Lectures are held on this meeting and not least plants are sold. Some members grow plants from seeds that are sold after two to three years for reasonable money. Occasionally there may also be foreign nurseries with sales plants. Our general meeting is also held at the annual meeting.

If you want to talk about cacti with others, exchange experiences, visit other members, exchange or buy plants, then it is recommended that you join a local branch. It usually costs only approx. 30-50 DKK a year to be a member of the local branch, but you can only join a local branch if you are a member of the Nordisk Kaktus Selskab.
